There are two main categories of school jobs for students in special education: classroom jobs done either in the morning or afternoon for classroom maintenance, and then work experience jobs that might take up a class period because you are focusing on teaching vocational skills through those jobs.
Here's a list on each of those categories to get you thinking of jobs that your students might be able to do in your classroom and throughout your school!
Classroom Maintenance / Morning and Afternoon Jobs
- Setting up daily question
- Attendance
- Write lunch menu for the day / find picture of lunch option
- Greeter
- Classroom calendar set up
- Music (play classical music during transition time / before class begins)
- Pass out daily communication sheets (I love these ones)
- Sensory manager (turn on sensory lights, etc)
- Organize books on shelves/bins
- Clorox wipes to clean desks
- Vacuuming
- Dusting
- Watering classroom plants
- Write the date for the next day
- Clean doorknobs
- Turn off computers
- Plug in iPads / walkies
- Putting up chairs on desks to vacuum
- Empty garbage cans
- Wipe white board (and mini white boards) clean
- Reset schedules for next day (daily and work task schedules)
School Jobs for Vocational Experience
- Work in the library (return books with help, straighten books on shelves)
- Wash tables in the cafeteria
- Shredding papers

- Sweep / dry mop hallways
- Wipe down lockers
- Recycling
- Sorting teacher mail into mailboxes
- Copy center
- Delivering papers to classrooms
- Coffee or snack cart for teachers
- Collecting and organizing box tops
- Collecting office supply orders
- Dishes (school kitchen / cafeteria)
- Laundry (PE clothes, rags)
