Mess Free Ornament Painting

How many of you have your students make gifts for their parents? Ornaments are one of my favorite simple gifts to make! You can easily pair it with another gift, or give it by itself!

I think that wood ornaments like the ones I used or these on Amazon are perfect for all ages, even age appropriate for high school aged students (so many ornament crafts I see on Pinterest wouldn't be appropriate, such as handprint ornaments for high schoolers, obviously a no - and others seem to childish as well). However, wood ornaments are perfect for everyone! Joann's had a bunch to choose from, including ones with spaces for a picture or without.

I had my toddler try out these metallic Kwik Stix paint sticks to see how they would work for students. They claim to dry in 90 seconds which I thought would be interesting to test out. On paper it dries almost instantly which is incredible! On wood they probably took closer to the 90 seconds but also dried super quickly.

The joy ornament had a lot of little cut outs, and with my toddler pressing hard, I had to take a toothpick to get out some extra paint stuck in the open spaces. So I'd recommend ornaments that aren't so detailed ;)

I absolutely love the way the metallic paints look too. So shiny and sparkly!

I remember doing crafts like this in previous years with my students and we would have to do them right away in the morning so that they would be dry by the time they went home. We wouldn't have that issue with these paints. Seriously, I'm now slightly obsessed with these paint sticks!

You can literally have students paint them and then wrap them up in the same class period. Win!

If you have your students make ornaments for their parents, I'd love to hear about it or see them! Comment, send me a picture, or tag me on Instagram @BreezySpecialEd!

Click the pictures below to check out the Kwik Stix paint sitcks and the Magic Stix markers on Amazon! (Curious about the magic stix markers? Apparently you can leave the cap off for 7+ days and they won't dry out! What?! I'm currently testing this claim on my instagram stories, come check it out! I'll post the results here after trying them out for a week - or longer!)

Happy ornament making!
